Where are your salons?

When are you open?

Our Salons are open 5 or 6 days a week. Please click here to see our trading hours for each salon.

What products do you sell?

Zucci are exclusive stockists of Aveda products. We also have, Denman, Slik pillow slips and Bang Buddies hair clips.

Do you do hair extensions?

No, we don’t do any hair extensions at our salon locations.

We ask that if you have extensions in your hair, you notify us of this. If you do have extensions and book a service but do not let us know we may not be able to take of the service.


Do you have permanent hair straightening at your salons?

No, we don’t do permanent hair straightening at our salons.

Do you do Brazilian blowout or Keratin straightening services at your salon?

No, we don’t do those services at Zucci.

I have just had a baby, can I bring my baby into the salon with a pram?

Yes! The best time to bring a pram into the salon is in the mornings on a weekday. Our salons are not as noisy in the mornings, and there is more space.

Can I bring my dog into the salon?

We allow dogs into all our salons. All dogs must be on a lead at all times and, if possible, not bark too much. It is best to bring a blanket, towel or pillow for your dog to sit on.
If the dog is disruptive to the salon environment, Zucci reserves the right to ask for the dog to be removed.

How do I book an appointment?

Either via online bookings through our website or call into the salon directly to book.

Why do I have to pay a deposit when I book an appointment?

We take deposits to secure your appointment because we commit this time for you, and we do not squeeze in appointments. All appointments booked over the phone or online will require a deposit to be paid at the time of booking.

Do you give prices for your services over the phone or via email/socials?

Listed on our services page, we have a starting price for all our services. For an exact service quote, please visit any of our salons for an obligation free consultation.


What is so good about Aveda?

Aveda is a high-performance, high tech, cruelty-free plant-derived hair, skin and lifestyle brand. The company was founded in 1978 by an Austrian hairdresser Horst Rechelbacher who was a pioneer of modern holistic beauty, and a champion of environmental responsibility.

Are Aveda products organic?

Aveda uses organic ingredients where possible. All the products are made from plant-derived ingredients. Aveda has a goal to have all the essential oils used in their products be 100% certified organic by the end of 2021.

Are Aveda products vegan?

Aveda is 100% Vegan! Aveda has always been a cruelty-free company and has never tested on animals.

Do you use Aveda hair colour?

Yes at Zucci we only use Aveda hair colour.

Is the Aveda hair colour organic?

The Aveda hair colour contains organic ingredients, but it is 93% to 99% naturally derived or made from plants. The synthetic ingredients in the Aveda hair colours are some of the pigment agents. Aveda is continuing to increase their percentages of organic ingredients in their hair colour ranges.

Does Aveda colour have ammonia in it?

Aveda colour does have naturally derived ammonia that comes from corn in the Full Spectrum Permanent and the Full Spectrum Deep hair colour ranges. This ammonia is made with corn and evaporates off in the first 10 minutes of processing the hair colour.

Do Aveda products have sulphates in them?

Aveda has sulphates in some of their shampoos and conditioners. When Aveda choose to use sulphate-based surfactants derived from tropical oils like coconut oil, they believe they are the best choice to provide the product’s desired end benefit. Aveda only uses gentle sulphate based surfactants, and Aveda does not use sodium lauryl sulphate. If you are looking for specific sulphate-free products, we have many that accommodate that need.

Scalp & Haircare

Can I over wash my hair?

Yes, over-washing can cause dehydration of the scalp or excess oil production that can make you feel like your hair is dirty and in need of more washing.

I have an itchy scalp. Why?

This could be due to products used, the food you have eaten, pollutants in your environment or an internal imbalance that affects the skin. If you have an ongoing itchy scalp, we recommend contacting a GP, dermatologist or trichologist.

How often should I wash my hair?

This depends on your personal needs. Washing your hair daily is recommended for oily scalp or if you workout and want to cleanse your hair. Or you can wash your hair every 2-3 days for general maintenance. Every hair type is different.

Every time I wash my hair, it does not feel clean. Why?

This could be due to the product you are using. You may need a shampoo that has a greater cleansing capacity.

I feel like my ends are really dry and damaged. How can I tell?

Your hair will feel ruff to the touch. We recommend cutting the dry ends or using a product like Aveda’s Botanical Repair to repair the dry ends.

Hair Loss

I feel like I am losing my hair. Why?

There are many reasons for hair loss; these include environment, products used, genetics, diet, health issues and aging.

I had a baby four months ago, and all my hair is falling out. Why?

This is due to hormonal changes in the body. In some cases, this will correct itself without intervention. However, this varies from individual to individual.

My scalp is really sensitive, and I feel like I am losing hair. Why?

This is something you should seek medical advice on. We recommend talking to a GP, dermatologist or trichologist.

Why do men lose hair?

Hair loss in men is linked directly to genetics in most cases.

Why do women lose hair?

Hair loss in women is a complex issue. There are many reasons that women lose hair. We have listed a few below but if you are concerned about hair loss we recommend seeking advice from a GP, Dermatologist or Trichologist.

Female hair loss can happen as a result of:

  • Hormone changes or imbalances
  • Stress or grief
  • Genetics
  • Vitamin and mineral deficiency
Can I lose more hair at different times of the year?

There can be seasonal influences on hair loss, all mammals shed hair, and it is common to lose 100-200 hairs a day; this number can increase during different seasons of the year. Everyone is different, and every year can be different too.

What is a 7-year hair growth cycle?

This is a cycle that relates to your whole body and how it ages. We continually age, and as a result, cells change. Hair also naturally sheds, so using hair loss preventative products help retain your hair for a longer period.

What can I do to stop my hair from falling out?

Use hair growth products like Aveda’s Invati Advanced range, which is designed to feed the follicles and encourage and stimulate hair growth.

Does medication affect how hair grows and falls out?

Yes, medication does affect hair growth and loss.

Where can I get a hair transplant?

We can’t advise on this. It is best to contact a GP, Dermatologist or Trichologist for advice.

Hair Colour

Can I get my hair coloured if I am pregnant?

This decision is up to you and your doctor. Every person is different and wants different things during their pregnancy. We will be happy to follow any directions from you and your doctor.

Do I have to have clean hair when it is coloured?

It is preferable to have hair that is clean when you have your hair coloured. It does not have to be freshly washed or squeaky clean, just not very dirty. If your hair has excess oil or any grey coverage products in it, this can hinder the hair colour’s outcome.

Can I have my hair coloured if it is wet?

No, if you come in with wet hair for hair colour, we will have to dry it before starting the process.

Can I have my hair coloured if it has chlorine in it?

If you have chlorine or saltwater in your hair, it will need to be shampooed out before hair colouring. If you can ensure that your hair is free of chlorine and saltwater before coming in, it will make your hair colouring process more streamlined.

What is a toner and do I need one?

A toner is a service that balances unwanted or varied tones in hair colour. Toners are used for highlighting services to adjust (balance) the old and new colours in the hair. If needed, it completely depends on what is in your hair and what result you want to see. This is determined in the consultation before your hair colour service.

I have Henna in my hair; can I have it coloured?

The short answer is no. Henna is a vegetable-based colour product, and it has metallic particles that react with most hair colour ranges. This reaction causes hair to weaken and potentially snap. If you have Henna in your hair, you will need to have a hair strand test before a hair colour service to determine if the colour can be done.

What is a patch test?

A patch test is a test that is carried out a minimum of 24 hours before the colour service. This test will determine whether you will react to the colour product being applied directly to the surface of your scalp. The process involves a small amount of colour placed either behind the ear or on the inner arm for 45 min then it is cleaned away. If you do not react after 24 hours, we can proceed with the colour.

What is a strand test?

A strand test is a process used to test if your desired hair colour is possible. We cut a small amount of hair and use our colour products to test the colour and determine the next step for your service. This process is done at least a week before your colour service to ensure the booking and timeline is correct.

I coloured my hair at home, and it has gone too dark. What can I do?

Contact an experienced professional colourist who will be able to advise you on the best course of action.

I coloured my hair at home, and it said it was a semi-permanent, but my hair has gone lighter. What can I do?

My hair is going grey, but I don't want to colour all of it, what can I do instead?

Seek out an experienced professional colourist who will be able to give you personal advice based on your style and maintenance requirements.

Can men get their hair coloured?

Yes, men can have any hair colour service that females have. It is best to have a consultation to determine your desired result, and then we will prescribe a hair colour process.

What types of hair colour can men have?

Anything they want, the options are endless.

What is the difference between highlights and lowlights?

Highlights add brightness and lightness to your hair. Lowlights add depth or shadow tones to your hair.

I want to have balayage, what does that mean?

Balayage is the name for a technique that refers to painting the hair to accent highlights throughout the hair. It is a technique that is done in many different ways depending on your hair texture, natural colour and the desired result.

I want to have a hair colour that will fade out of my hair, can I have this?

Hair colours that fade are referred to as temporary or semi-permanent colours. They generally last anywhere from 1 – 6 weeks. To have this type of colour in your hair; please contact our team to discuss your options.

Can you make my hair pink?

Yes, and every other colour! Contact us to learn more.


Can I get my hair cut dry?

Yes, often you will require it to be shampooed then dried at the salon first before it is cut. This will allow for a more accurate result.

Do you cut curly hair?

Yes, we have curly hair cutting specialists who work at Zucci. Cutting curly hair is very different from cutting straight hair.

Do you cut curly hair dry?

Yes, we recommend you wash and dry your hair the day you visit the salon so we can see how you wear your hair and the degree of natural curl in your hair.

Do I get a blow-wave with my haircut?

Yes, all our haircut services come with a blow-wave styling service, the finished result will be determined in your consultation.

Do I get a head massage with my haircut?

All guests at Zucci receive a sensory experience (choosing a composition oil) to be used with their head, neck and shoulder massage before their haircut service commences.

How long does a haircut take?

We allocate 1 hour for all haircut appointments.

How often should I get my haircut?

This depends on your length, style requirement and personal needs. We recommend 4-6 weeks for maintenance and 8 weeks for longer hair.

I think I have split ends, how do I tell?

You will see small branches at the ends (tips) of your hair. Your hair will also feel rough when you rub it between your fingers.

Can I donate my hair at Zucci?

Yes, you can donate your hair. If you would like to donate your hair please contact any of our salons to discuss and book an appointment.

How long does my hair need to be to donate?

We take hair donations that are 20cm or more in length.

Can I keep my hair once it has been cut off?

If you wish to keep it, you can.


What happens to all the hair that is cut off my head?

We have a thorough recycling process for almost everything that gets used in our salons, from foil from highlights to discarded hair.

Can I bring in my used Aveda bottles to be recycled?

Yes you can, bring them in to any of our salons to have them recycled.

Zucci is always looking for ways to improve and be the most sustainable salon we can be. We have a thorough recycling process for almost everything that gets used in our salons, from foil from highlights to discarded hair.

Can I have my hair permed?

At Zucci we offer perming services that are entirely bespoke to the guest’s hair texture, length, colour, and desired result. Perming is not always possible on some hair types. We require all guests interested in having a perm to have a paid in-person consultation to discuss possible options for their hair. A decision is then made if the perm can be done.

What do I need to do to get my hair permed?

The first step is to book a 30 min consultation. This consultation is $50. We offer these consultations in person at our South Melbourne salon location only. During the consultation, we analyse the following:

    • The condition of your hair.
    • The texture of your hair.
    • The hair colour and chemical history of your hair.
    • Your desired outcome and curl texture. 
    • The timeline for your perming service – it may be necessary for the condition of your hair to improve or the haircut to be modified to achieve your desired result. 
    • The pricing of the perm – a quote will be given for the perm service and a time frame will be given for this quote. 
    • The date and time for the perm to happen. 
    • Deposit for the perming service. We require 25% of the price of the perm service to be paid at the time of booking. 

If you choose to proceed with the perm service, this is booked on the day of the consultation, and the perm deposit is paid. 

We will photograph your hair during this consultation and save any reference images to your client card. 

You may be prescribed a pre-perm hair regime that may be conditional to getting your hair permed. 

If a perm is booked, the 25% deposit is held on your account, and we require a minimum of 72 hours notice for a change of appointment or cancellation. If the appointment is moved or cancelled during the 72-hour cancellation period, the 25% deposit will be held by Zucci.

How much does it cost to get my hair permed?

At Zucci, all perms are bespoke and customised to the guest completely. Perming prices vary depending on: 

    • Desired result
    • Hair texture
    • Amount of hair 
    • The time needed to do the perm 
    • Amount of product required to do the perm 
    • Additional haircut and treatment services are needed for the hair before and after the perm. 

We quote all perm prices during the consultation. Prices may start at $400 and go up to $1500. All quotes are given at the time of consultation. All quotes are valid for a time period as if your hair situation changes this can change the price of the perm. 

Do I need to pay a deposit for my perming consultation?

All consultations require a $50 deposit when making your booking. This is the cost of the consultation and is required to be paid at the time of booking.

We have a 72-hour cancellation window for perming consultation services. Zucci will retain the deposit if the appointment is moved or cancelled within 72 hours of the appointment time or the guest does not show up for the appointment.

Do I need to pay a deposit for my perm?

All perms will require a 25% deposit to be paid at the time of booking. All perms have a 72-hour cancellation policy, and Zucci will retain the deposit if the appointment is cancelled or moved within 72 hours of appointment time or the guest does not show up for the appointment.


Do I need to use special products for my hair?

We will prescribe all products required for treating and styling your perm. If the hair has an excess of silicone or other synthetic product build-up, it may be necessary for a pre-perm hair and scalp clarification service to ensure the hair can be permed. This is all discussed in the consultation.

Can I have a perm if I already have a perm in my hair?

This will be explored in the consultation.

How long does it take to do a perm?

A perm can take anywhere from 2 to 7 hours depending on the desired result, hair length and process. We will inform you of the time needed on the day of your consultation. We recommend bringing snacks, work, a book, and any other entertainment to your perm service. We cannot shorten or modify the time needed for a perm service. The process cannot be sped up or altered in any way, so please allow the full allotted time for your service.

Where do you do the perms?

At Zucci we do all our perm services at our South Melbourne salon only and exclusively on Wednesday’s. We do not perm on Saturday’s or after hours.

How long does the perm last?

A perm is permanent; however, depending on the desired result and hair texture, perms will soften over time. When hair is permed, we change the structure of the hair shaft; this means that you will see your natural textured hair in the newly growing hair. This is all discussed in the consultation.

Can I bring my children to a perming service?

We ask that you do not bring your children to a perming service. It is a very technical and time-focused process and is not appropriate for children to be around. We will indicate the time needed for the perm, and we ask that you allow the full time allotted.

Where can I park my car during my perm service?

There is paid parking at Coles centre, Woolworths, and the South Melbourne market. We will not be able to feed meters, and you will not be able to leave the salon to do this during your perm service. We ask that you park at a paid car park or organise alternate transport to the salon.

What is the process after my perm?

We discuss all perm maintenance processes for your hair prior to and during your perm service. We will prescribe a hair treatment and styling regime for you and teach you how to style your permed hair. We provide a follow-up phone call one week after the perm service to check-in.
