AVEDA FIRST BEAUTY COMPANY TO USE 100% RECYCLED CAPS ON COLOUR TUBES

A global leader in corporate environmental sustainability, Aveda™ has created the Caps Recycling Program, helping combat the devastating effects of plastic cap pollution in our oceans and increasing awareness of this critical issue.

The project helps break through the current boundaries of recycling to create new caps out of 100% recycled caps— a minimum of 85% post-consumer recycled content, which will help save marine life by reducing the amount of caps littering our beaches and oceans.

THE NEED TO RESCUE PLASTIC CAPS FROM OUR OCEANS

In its path towards increased environmentally-responsible packaging, Aveda found that a majority of plastic bottle caps do not get recycled today. Often these caps are discarded as litter or trash, ending up in landfills and beaches or migrating into our rivers and oceans. The result is tragic: birds and other marine creatures such as turtles, fish and penguins, often mistake the colourful caps for food. Animals either choke on the caps or ingest them, resulting in a stomach full of plastic—which can lead to malnutrition and often death. This plastic cap problem contributes to the magnitude of pollution that is devastating to oceans and wildlife.

“Aveda’s Caps Recycling Program was created to help combat the devastating effects of plastic cap pollution—and to increase awareness around this critical issue,” says Chuck Bennett, vice president of Earth and Community Care for Aveda. “Recycling caps is a meaningful form of environmental activism. Every cap we prevent from becoming trash is one less piece of plastic in the mouth of a baby seal, penguin or turtle.”

Both Alan and Chiara competed at the IHS competitions for the first time. The experience was amazing and rewarding for both Chiara and Alan challenging them to explore their creativity and develop their styling skills. Congratulations to both on a great effort.

WOW what a day. We had a great day competing at the annual HBIA hairdressing competition held at the new Melbourne Convention  centre. Our team of stylists and colourist worked for months leading up to this event. Lauren, Shakira, Kathryn, Amy, Ashlee and Alan all competed on the day, with both Shakira and Kathryn winning events. I know how hard all of the team worked leading up to this event and it a credit to all of them for the commitment and dedication to their craft and personal growth. Congratulation again to you all….

To say that Kathryn has set high goals is an understatement. Kathryn is a go getter with the determination and skill to match. I have taken great delight in watching Kathryn achieve all of the awards in her short career. It is a real inspiration to everyone at ZUCCi watching our young team challenging themselves to be the best they can.

Kathryn is a highly creative stylist and has worked closely with several photographers over the past 2 years developing her styling skills.

On Sunday the 18th of April, all the staff at Zucci and a few guests of the salon came together to do a 6km walk to help raise funds to provide clean drinking water in developing countries. Aveda in conjunction with Global Green Grants put together the walk for the 2^nd year running for Earth Month. The walk took place along the Yarra and around the Botanical Gardens. Even though it was quite a warm day for April all the team persevered and finished the walk and had lots of fun along the way. The distance of 6km was chosen because it is the average distance that people have to walk to get clean drinking water in developing nations. As a salon we have aimed to raise $1000 and we are still taking donations. We also have beautiful organic lavender candles and SIGG drink bottles in store for you to purchase. All funds form these purchases go towards the cause. 

On December the 3^rd 2009 Zucci Lifestyle Salon at David Jones Bourke St was opened.  This is very exciting for the whole Zucci family and the Aveda family because this is the first Aveda Lifestyle Salon in Australia. Located at Level 1/310 Bourke St Melbourne, it is in the heart of Melbourne and the fashion hub of the city. “With the opening of this salon I see a full circle in the commencement of my hairdressing career at Venus Hair College located at Centre Point Bourke St” directly across Bourke St from David Jones” said Zucci Director Rocco Petrucci. Zucci Lifestyle is a destination salon. The lifestyle concept brings an even greater service level for our guests to experience. This salon has two locations within the David Jones store. Located on ground floor we have our “Express Blow-dry Bar” and Retail Area where guests can purchase any Aveda Product as we stock the full range, have their hair styled by one of our creative staff or experience an Aveda Sensory Ritual. The Level 1 Salon is a beautifully designed space capturing natural light. The space offer’s a relaxing and creative environment where busy shoppers can experience an excellent hairdressing service. The team at David Jones is lead by our Creative Director Roxanne Jowett-Hall. Roxanne is supported by Robyn who is the Retail manager and a fantastic team of Stylists, Colourists, Product Advisors and Salon Coordinators.
